Ron Thal - Honorary RMA Faculty
Ron Thal, (Bumblefoot),
has visited the RMA multiple times to instruct at workshops, teach private lessons, give clinics and perform. His first appearance at the RMA was filmed for
a DVD and called "Bumblefoot - Live at the RMA". The DVD of this clinic on March 27th, 2004 is
available for purchase at his website.
Ron is a good friend to all of us here at the RMA and has truly helped many students become better players
and get excited about their musical goals. His positive views on music are an inspiration to all
of us and give students an excellent perspective on enjoying music in their own lives. If you ever
want to completely change the way you look at guitar playing, you have to see him perform live. His
playing is about as diverse as you will ever see, and he employs techniques and approaches
that are innovative and fresh.
Since Ron continues to give of himself to help other players here at the RMA, we are proud to
name him an Honorary Faculty member. We know he will keep coming back, because he just can't
stay away! :-)
For those who don't know him, here's a quick bio:
Bumblefoot (aka Ron Thal) is a recording artist and international touring artist from NYC with
seven albums released since 1995. Fronting the band as lead singer/guitarist, the music is hard
rock, bordering on quirky and experimental. Known for his unusual guitar-work, Bumblefoot has
been on the covers of guitar magazines around the world. His guitar playing can be heard in
the Spanish guitar soloing of Jessica Simpson's "Irresistible" dance mix, the punky guitar riff
of Spike TV 's MXC theme song, in the background of MTV's The Osbournes, The Real World, and much
more...
Bumblefoot works out of his studio in Princeton, NJ, where he collaborates with artists as a
songwriter/producer and writes for publishing companies, video games and TV shows. Bumblefoot
is a volunteer for the MS Research Foundation, a non-profit organization that donates funds
directly to Multiple Sclerosis research.
